Sonad Manufacturing has a large in-house CNC machining capability. Our machining includes CNC turning, CNC milling, cylindrical and surface grinding.

Our machines are constantly updated to maintain quality and accuracy and can be utilized either for one off production or volume production runs.

 

Most work coming from our design department is supplied to the CNC department in the form of a solid model drawing and from there it is broken down to be machined in the appropriate sequence. Our CAM software can accept many different translators so if you prefer to do your own design you can simply supply us with the data and we can machine the parts for you.

Cylindrical Grinding

 

Cylindrical grinding, or precision grinding as it is commonly referred to, is an extremely effective way of achieving very accurate levels of precision machining with a high-quality finish. This is achieved by using high-quality specialized grinding wheels on precision cylindrical grinders. The component, which is either held between centers or a chuck, spins whilst the grinding wheel traverses the length of the component, slowly removing material. This cylindrical grinding process gives us the ability to machine and restore worn and damaged components back to original specs, whilst ensuring that they are also running true and parallel with high levels of precision.

 

Surface Grinding

 

Surface grinding is the most common of the grinding operations. A finishing process that uses a rotating abrasive wheel to smoothen the flat surface of metallic or non-metallic materials to give them a more refined look or to attain a desired surface grade for a functional purpose. A surface grinder is a machine tool used to provide precision ground surfaces, either to a critical size or for the surface finish, or for a combination of both features. 

Factors to consider in surface grinding are the material of the grinding wheel and the material of the piece being worked on.
